Although granted bail in the CBI case on 18 February 2025 and the ED case on 4 March 2025, Michel has not met the bail conditions and continues to be held in custody. State vs Hiren Bhagat and others — Extortion case

Hiren Bhagat and others were accused of extorting 164 crore rupees from a Mumbai developer by impersonating Enforcement Directorate officials. State of Uttar Pradesh vs Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and others — Bulldozer Justice case

The Supreme Court of India issued a verdict on 13 November 2024 prohibiting authorities from demolishing properties solely because an individual is accused of a crime and established pan-India guidelines for such actions. In a subsequent development regarding the State of Uttar Pradesh vs Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and others case, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani formally opposed a demolition order issued by the Rampur Development Authority concerning Jauhar University as reported on 18 July 2026.

The Central Government revoked his detention, and he was released from jail on 14 March 2026. Consequently, the Supreme Court disposed of the habeas corpus petition filed by his wife on 24 March 2026.
