CBI investigation into GainBitcoin scam

The Enforcement Directorate auctioned a seized Hawker 800A aircraft for Rs 3 crore as part of an ongoing investigation into a Ponzi scheme. The proceeds are intended for the restitution of investors, pending approval from a special court.

CBI arrested IAS officer Pankaj Agarwal in connection with an alleged Rs 657-crore fraud involving IDFC First Bank. Chargesheets have been filed against five bankers, one CSCL official, and one private individual. The case involves suspected financial misconduct at multiple levels.

The Supreme Court registered a suo motu case in October 2025 after a senior citizen couple from Haryana reported being defrauded of Rs 1.5 crore in a digital arrest scam. The Court issued 13-point directions to combat such scams nationwide, recognizing this as a widespread issue affecting multiple states and directing RBI, banks, and state authorities to implement urgent SOPs and cybercrime coordination mechanisms.
