State vs. alleged perpetrators — Dharmasthala rape and murder cases

The Supreme Court ordered a de novo investigation on 24 September 2026 into the 2012 rape and murder of 17-year-old Soujanya and related allegations of mass burials in Dharmasthala, Karnataka. A new Special Investigation Team (SIT) has since unearthed seven sets of human remains at Banglegudde as of 24 October 2026. Following this discovery, the Karnataka State Women’s Commission requested an expansion of the SIT's mandate to address discrepancies in unnatural death reports as of 26 October 2026.

Central Bureau of Investigation vs Unknown — Disha Salian death case

Following a September 2026 Bombay High Court order, the Central Bureau of Investigation registered an FIR to probe the 2020 death of Disha Salian, previously closed as a suicide. The investigation, led by officer Seema Pahuja, includes allegations of murder and gang rape involving individuals such as Aaditya Thackeray, Rhea Chakraborty, and Dino Morea. As of 14 October 2026, counsel for the family has alleged that the case is part of a conspiracy linked to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput and the Aryan Khan drug probe.

Calcutta High Court directive on Baruipur rape-murder case encounter

The Calcutta High Court is reviewing the death of Prabhash Mondal, the main accused in the Baruipur rape-murder case, who was killed on 8 July 2026 during an alleged encounter with police. Following a batch of Public Interest Litigations, the High Court directed the West Bengal government on 20 September 2026 to file affidavits addressing the circumstances surrounding his custodial death. The case remains under investigation as of 20 September 2026.

State vs Trainee IPS Officer — Hyderabad Police Academy sexual assault case

Trainee IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy has been booked and arrested following allegations by a fellow trainee officer at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad regarding sexual harassment, assault, blackmail, and other offenses. The investigation was transferred to the Women Safety Wing, and the police were granted two-day custody of the accused for interrogation as reported on 6 August 2026. Prior to his arrest, the accused had filed a petition in the Telangana High Court to quash the FIR.

State vs Rohit Joshi — Rape case

A woman filed a rape complaint with the Delhi Police against Rohit Joshi, the son of Rajasthan cabinet minister Mahesh Joshi, on 10 May 2022. Following legal challenges, the Rajasthan High Court directed the state to provide police protection to the complainant on 25 May 2022, and the Delhi High Court ordered the state to reply to Rohit Joshi's petition on 06 June 2022.
