State vs. alleged perpetrators — Dharmasthala rape and murder cases

A 12-year-old girl's body was recovered from a pond in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal on July 5, 2026. She was allegedly raped and murdered. Three persons were arrested in connection with the case; one accused, Prabhas Mondal, was killed in a police encounter on July 8, 2026. The case triggered significant public unrest and mob violence in the area.

A 65-year-old accused was convicted and awarded death penalty for rape and murder of a minor. The case gained attention for the speed of investigation and trial. Police collected evidence from multiple sources and coordinated with forensic experts. A comprehensive chargesheet of 1,200 pages was filed on May 16.

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped, gang-raped, and murdered inside an under-construction mall in Ghaziabad's Raj Nagar Extension. Two persons, including an 18-year-old labourer named Vinay, were arrested in connection with the crime. The victim's body was recovered from the basement/sub-basement of the building with multiple injury marks.

An 11-year-old girl living with her family on a footpath at CDR Chowk in Mehrauli, Delhi was allegedly abducted around 5 a.m. while sleeping. The girl was raped and killed by a cab driver, Bashu Kumar Singh. Police arrested the accused following technical surveillance and CCTV analysis; during interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to abducting, sexually assaulting, and strangling the minor.

A 40-year-old woman identified as Krishna Barman, a house help from West Bengal, was found dead at her rented house in Muniyappa Layout under Bommanahalli Police Station limits in Bengaluru. Investigators suspect she was strangled by someone known to her. Police recovered a rope, tablets, and alcohol bottles from the room and are awaiting forensic and postmortem reports.

A 29-year-old history-sheeter named Raja alias Halmuk Raja was attacked and hacked to death by a group of unidentified assailants near IG Circle on JP Nagar Road in Bengaluru on a Sunday evening. CCTV footage captured multiple attackers chasing him and assaulting him with machetes. Police suspect the killing to be linked to gang rivalries or a revenge killing.
