In re: Acquisition of 59 acres in Bengaluru by House Building Cooperative Society
On 26 October 2026, the Supreme Court of India quashed 30-year-old land acquisition proceedings for 59 acres in Nelakadiranahalli Village, citing fraud and the lack of an approved housing scheme. The court ordered the restoration of land to original owners and directed that farmers must return previously accepted compensation without interest, failing which the land may be auctioned to recover the funds. As of 27 October 2026, the court further clarified that valid acquisitions require an actual housing scheme supported by a layout and blueprint.
