CBI & ED vs Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi & Others — PNB Letters of Undertaking (LoU) Bank Fraud Case

Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi are accused of defrauding Punjab National Bank through the fraudulent issuance of Letters of Undertaking. Nirav Modi has been held in United Kingdom custody since 16 May 2025, and a Belgian court approved the extradition of Mehul Choksi to India on 24 October 2025. On 26 October 2026, the Enforcement Directorate moved to designate Ami Nirav Modi and Priti Choksi as fugitive economic offenders.

State of Maharashtra vs. Rakesh Wadhawan & Sarang Wadhawan (and others) — PMC Bank Fraud Case

The Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank fraud case involves allegations of massive loan defaults and money laundering against HDIL promoters Rakesh and Sarang Wadhawan. Both promoters were granted bail by the Bombay High Court on 9 April 2024. A special PMLA court rejected a plea to release 1,741 acres of attached land on 13 October 2026, and the National Company Law Tribunal ordered the exclusion of Worli development rights from HDIL assets on 16 October 2026.

Enforcement Directorate vs Heera Group

The Enforcement Directorate is investigating the Heera Group Ponzi scheme, which allegedly defrauded the public of over ₹5,978 crore. As reported on 16 October 2026, the agency completed the registration of nine properties auctioned for ₹103.26 crore, following a 14 October 2026 registration of seven properties sold for ₹15.03 crore. These proceeds are to be transferred to the Serious Fraud Investigation Office for investor compensation as directed by the Supreme Court.

CBI vs Dheeraj Wadhawan — DHFL loan fraud case

The Supreme Court cancelled the bail of DHFL promoter Dheeraj Wadhawan on 5 August 2025, rejecting his medical grounds for release in connection with the ₹42,000 crore loan fraud case. Subsequently, the Enforcement Directorate froze ₹51.75 crore in proceeds of crime as reported on 17 September 2026. On 15 October 2026, the CBI arrested an IRS officer and an SFIO inspector for allegedly soliciting bribes to influence the ongoing investigation.

Anil Ambani vs Union of India — ADAG Bank Fraud Investigation

The Supreme Court is overseeing investigations into alleged bank loan fraud and fund diversion within ADAG companies, including Reliance Home Finance Limited. Following the filing of a second charge sheet naming 11 individuals on 2 October 2026, the Delhi High Court ordered authorities on 13 October 2026 to provide details of the Look Out Circular issued against Jai Anshul Anil Ambani. The Union government has also moved the Supreme Court to transfer all related cases to the Delhi High Court as of 9 September 2026.

Supreme Court suo motu case — Digital arrest scams targeting elderly citizens

The Supreme Court is hearing a suo motu case concerning a surge in digital arrest scams targeting elderly citizens, mandating a 13-point directive for the RBI, banks, and states to implement urgent cybercrime coordination and victim fund restoration. As part of the ongoing judicial oversight, the CBI has intensified its crackdown through Operation Chakra-VI, while the central government is evaluating the creation of a dedicated legal provision to address these cyber frauds as of 09 September 2026.

ED vs RCom and Reliance Infra — 40,000-crore bank fraud case

The Enforcement Directorate has charged Reliance Communications and Reliance Infrastructure in a 40,185-crore rupee bank fraud case, alleging funds were siphoned through 53 shell firms. The agency has attached assets worth 8,078 crore rupees as part of its ongoing investigation. As of 8 September 2026, the Centre has moved the Supreme Court to transfer all related cases against Anil Ambani to the Delhi High Court.

CBI investigation into pan-India digital arrest scam network

The CBI is investigating organized cybercriminal networks involved in pan-India digital arrest scams under Operation Chakra-VI. Following Supreme Court directives to treat these as organised crime, the agency has conducted multiple nationwide raids, including searches at 89 locations across 20 states on 06 September 2026, leading to several arrests. The investigation, which began following a 2025 mandate from the Supreme Court, has resulted in the filing of a charge sheet in a major case involving a 23 crore scam.

State vs. Multiple accused — Digital arrest cyber fraud (Delhi)

The CBI has filed a chargesheet against 33 individuals for a cyber fraud scheme that defrauded a Delhi executive of Rs 50 lakh using fake digital arrest claims and a forged Supreme Court domain. Following a complaint from the Supreme Court Registry, the investigation expanded under Operation Chakra-VI, with three additional arrests conducted across India as reported on 04 September 2026. The case against the accused, including shell firm operators and money mules, is pending before a court.

Saradha Chit Fund Scam — Multi-crore Ponzi scheme collapse — CBI & ED prosecutions against accused promoters and linked individuals

The Saradha Group allegedly collected approximately Rs 2,500 crore from investors through a fraudulent Ponzi scheme, leading the Supreme Court to transfer the investigation to the CBI in 2014. While the trials against multiple accused have faced a stalemate since 17 April 2026, the Supreme Court granted bail to primary promoter Sudipta Sen on 20 August 2026 after he spent nearly a decade in custody. The PMLA court dismissed the ED’s money-laundering case against Nalini Chidambaram on 1 August 2024.

CBI investigation into GainBitcoin scam

The CBI is conducting a nationwide investigation into the alleged Rs 1.3 lakh crore GainBitcoin cryptocurrency scam involving money laundering. Following nationwide searches and the seizure of digital assets worth INR 23.94 crores reported on 26 February 2025, the CBI arrested co-founder and CTO Ayush Varshney on 11 March 2026. As of 19 July 2026, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Union Government regarding a petition filed by investors seeking justice in the case.

In re: Builder-Bank Nexus in Delhi-NCR

The Supreme Court directed the CBI to investigate six instances of alleged collusion between banks and builders involving the misuse of subvention schemes. Following multi-state raids conducted on 14 April 2026, the CBI filed a chargesheet on 6 May 2026 against AVJ Developers, its directors, and officials from the Bank of India, ICICI, and UCO Bank for alleged fraud involving proxy buyers.
