State of Maharashtra vs Harsha Gopal Kadam — Schaeffler India factory accident case

Harsha Gopal Kadam, the CEO and Managing Director of Schaeffler India, was arrested by Pune police on 21 October 2026 in connection with a 9 June 2026 factory accident in Talegaon MIDC that resulted in two worker deaths due to a carbon dioxide discharge. Following the arrest, the Bombay High Court questioned the procedural necessity of the police action during a hearing on 23 October 2026.

A. Inamdar and others vs State of Maharashtra

On 22 October 2026, the Bombay High Court quashed the FIR registered under Section 304A and Section 34 of the IPC against the trustees, principal, and staff of a Pune college regarding the 2016 drowning of 14 students at Murud beach. Justice Milind Jadhav ruled that college authorities hold no criminal liability for adult students, affirming that responsibility for public beach safety rests with the state government. The Court also directed the state to improve warning and rescue measures at public beaches.

Delay in chargesheet filing in Thane case

The Bombay High Court initiated action against police officials in Thane for a nine-year delay in filing a chargesheet for a 2017 case. Thane police filed the chargesheet against Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre and four others on 17 September 2026. Following an 07 August 2026 bail grant, the Supreme Court stayed the bail for the accused on 17 September 2026.
