State vs Abuzair Safi and Aman Sukhla — Attempted murder of rape survivor

Mukesh Singh and four others were convicted for the gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old woman on a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012. The case drew nationwide outrage and resulted in death sentences for the four convicts (Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, and Akshay Kumar Singh), who were executed in February 2015. A fifth man and one juvenile were also involved in the crime.

A 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh in September 2020. The CBI filed a chargesheet in December 2020 against four accused persons. In March 2023, an SC/ST court acquitted three of the four accused; one was convicted of culpable homicide, and gang-rape charges were dropped against all accused.

A case involving the placement of a vibrating machine on a victim's vaginal opening was heard by the Kerala High Court. The court held that such conduct constitutes penetrative sexual assault equivalent to rape under the POCSO Act.

Former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal was accused of rape, sexual harassment, wrongful confinement and assault of a woman journalist at a Goa resort in November 2013. After initial acquittal in 2021, the Bombay High Court's Goa bench convicted him in 2026 following final arguments on the chargesheet filed by Goa Police in February 2014.

Abhishek Porel, a wicketkeeper-batter for Delhi Capitals in the IPL, was arrested by Bengal Police in Hooghly district following a complaint by a woman alleging that he had sexual relations with her on the promise of marriage. The allegations also include rape, assault, criminal intimidation, and threats to leak intimate images.

A junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata was raped and murdered on 9 August 2024. The case sparked nationwide outrage and protests. A man was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment; a fresh FIR and multi-agency probe involving CBI have been initiated into additional aspects of the case.
