Mahua Moitra vs State of West Bengal — Circuit House accommodation dispute

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra challenged a district requirement for three days' advance booking to stay at the Krishnanagar Circuit House in West Bengal. On 16 October 2026, the Supreme Court ruled that the restriction was retaliatory and directed authorities to grant the MP access to the facility upon one day's notice. The court also ordered the state government to cooperate with the MP during her constituency visits for Durga Puja and Diwali.

State vs Mahua Moitra — Hate speech case

TMC MP Mahua Moitra is facing a hate speech case in West Bengal regarding comments made at a news conference in Nadia. The Calcutta High Court ordered the case transferred to an MP/MLA court on 08 September 2026 and extended her interim protection from coercive action until 29 January 2027 as of 02 October 2026. Separately, the Supreme Court directed the West Bengal government on 15 October 2026 to ensure the MP can visit her constituency without security hurdles.

Sanjay Sureka is accused of involvement in a money laundering case linked to a fraudulent scheme of approximately ₹6,210 crore involving shell companies. The Supreme Court granted him bail on 14 October 2026 citing the prolonged duration of the trial. Saradha Chit Fund Scam — Multi-crore Ponzi scheme collapse — CBI & ED prosecutions against accused promoters and linked individuals

The Saradha Group allegedly collected approximately Rs 2,500 crore from investors through a fraudulent Ponzi scheme, leading the Supreme Court to transfer the investigation to the CBI in 2014. While the trials against multiple accused have faced a stalemate since 17 April 2026, the Supreme Court granted bail to primary promoter Sudipta Sen on 20 August 2026 after he spent nearly a decade in custody. The PMLA court dismissed the ED’s money-laundering case against Nalini Chidambaram on 1 August 2024.

CBI vs Trinamool Congress leaders (Narada sting case)

The CBI is investigating Trinamool Congress leaders allegedly captured on camera accepting bribes during the Narada sting operation. Following the arrest of four prominent leaders on 17 May 2021, the Calcutta High Court granted them interim bail on 28 May 2021. As reported on 30 June 2021, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Mamata Banerjee regarding a related plea.
