State vs Sanjoy Roy — R.G. Kar Medical College rape and murder case

Following the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital on 9 August 2024, Sanjoy Roy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment on 20 January 2025. While the CBI continues to investigate additional aspects of the case, a fresh FIR was registered on 11 August 2026 into the destruction of evidence, leading to the arrest of former MLA Nirmal Ghosh on 13 August 2026.

State of West Bengal vs Suresh Paswan — 2013 Kidderpore rape and murder case

The Calcutta High Court commuted the death sentence of Suresh Paswan to a life term with no remission for 50 years. The convict was found guilty in 2019 of the 2013 rape and murder of a toddler in Kidderpore.

In January 2013, a college student was gang-raped and murdered in Kamduni, West Bengal, leading to the trial of six individuals. On 30 January 2016, a Kolkata court convicted the six defendants, sentencing three to death and three to life imprisonment. The court categorized the crime as the rarest of rare cases.
