In re: Natural justice requirements for social media takedown notices

On 20 October 2026, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled that authorities must provide social media users with a copy of any takedown order issued against their content at the time it is sent to the intermediary, citing principles of natural justice. In the same judgment, the Court set aside a Haryana Police notice to Meta regarding the Haryana 24 News Network Facebook page and ordered the content restored within 24 hours.

Election of 50 wards in Punjab

On 8 October 2026, the Supreme Court of India cancelled the election results for 50 municipal wards in the Patiala and Moga districts of Punjab following allegations of a compromised election process. The court ordered re-polling to occur within six weeks and, as reported on 9 October 2026, directed the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to appoint a monitoring committee headed by a retired judge to oversee the process.

DSP Gursher Sandhu vs Punjab and Haryana High Court — dismissal challenge case

DSP Gursher Sandhu challenged his dismissal from service over an incident involving the recording of an interview related to Lawrence Bishnoi. The Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected the dismissal. Sandhu appeared before Justice Raina virtually in November 2025 and in person in March 2026.

State vs Amritpal Singh — National Security Act detention

Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waaris Punjab De, was detained under the National Security Act following allegations of attempting to revive militancy in Punjab. The Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed his challenge to the detention order on 16 April 2026. Following the conclusion of these proceedings, Punjab Police took custody of Singh at Dibrugarh Central Jail on 22 April 2026 regarding the Ajnala violence case, with the court ordering that trial proceedings be conducted virtually.
