CBI vs Sonam Wangchuk and Himalayan Institute of Alternatives — FCRA violation inquiry

The CBI is conducting a preliminary inquiry into alleged Foreign Contribution Regulation Act violations by Sonam Wangchuk and the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, whose FCRA license was revoked on 25 September 2025. Separately, Wangchuk has challenged the Ladakh administration's 21 August 2025 cancellation of the institute's land lease in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. As reported on 24 October 2026, the court is hearing arguments regarding the land lease, which the administration claims lapsed due to payment and administrative failures.
