CBI vs Sushant Singh Rajput death case

Following an 07 August 2026 bail grant, the Supreme Court stayed the bail for the accused on 17 September 2026.

An FIR was registered against Navneet Rana and her husband related to recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa. The Bombay High Court directed the Maharashtra government to file an affidavit regarding the FIR.

State of Maharashtra vs Arnab Goswami — Abetment to Suicide

Republic TV founder Arnab Goswami was arrested in connection with a 2018 abetment to suicide case involving the death of an architect and his mother. Following his arrest in November 2020, the Supreme Court of India granted him interim bail on 27 November 2020. As reported on 15 August 2026, the Bombay High Court has since questioned the state government's authority to reopen this case after a magistrate had previously accepted a police closure report.

Nihar Gadkari vs Unknown — Defamatory content removal case

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari filed a civil suit against Meta, X, and Google regarding AI-generated deepfake content falsely linking him to the E20 fuel policy. On 5 August 2026, the Bombay High Court ruled the content was per se defamatory and ordered the immediate removal of the social media posts. The court also questioned the platforms regarding the absence of effective mechanisms to identify and remove such harmful content.

State vs Salim Qureshi and others

The Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti-Extortion Cell arrested several individuals, including Salim Qureshi, for alleged links to the Dawood Ibrahim gang and extortion activities as reported on 11 October 2022. Salim Qureshi Shaikh Chand Qureshi subsequently filed an application regarding the case, which was heard by the High Court as reported on 3 August 2026.

In re: Fraud Case Quashing

In the matter of Rutvij Bhagat Singh Wakhare v. This follows a judgment on 8 December 2025, where the Court set aside a High Court order that had quashed a separate fraud case based on a private compromise, emphasizing that economic offences affect society at large.

Court-ordered investigation into Madhabi Puri Buch and others

A special PMLA court in Mumbai had ordered the Anti-Corruption Bureau to register an FIR against former SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch, the BSE Chairman, and other officials regarding fraud allegations. Following an initial stay on the lower court's order, the Bombay High Court quashed the directive on 8 July 2026, citing the absence of a cognisable offence.

State vs RPF Officials — Assault and Death of Minor

The Bombay High Court closed the case regarding the 2018 custodial death of a 17-year-old minor after the state paid 5 lakh rupees in compensation to the mother of the deceased, as reported on 6 July 2026. This followed the registration of a case against four RPF officials in February 2026 over allegations of assault linked to the death.

CBI vs Chanda Kochhar, Deepak Kochhar and Venugopal Dhoot — ICICI Bank-Videocon loan fraud case

The Central Bureau of Investigation is investigating allegations of a multi-crore loan fraud involving former ICICI Bank MD Chanda Kochhar, her husband Deepak Kochhar, and Videocon Group owner Venugopal Dhoot. State vs. Accused — Rape and murder of 6-year-old girl in Maval Taluka

The Pune Sessions Court sentenced a 24-year-old man to death for the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Maval Taluka as reported on 23 March 2024. The Bombay High Court set aside the death sentence and ordered a fresh trial on 16 March 2026.

In re: Custodial death of Somnath Suryawanshi

The Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team on 14 August 2025 to probe the custodial death of Dalit law student Somnath Suryawanshi after a magisterial inquiry report found police officials responsible. Following these events, the Maharashtra government issued new guidelines on 7 October 2025 prohibiting investigating officers from closing custodial death cases without incorporating conclusions from executive inquiries. The matter continues to be monitored by the court.

CBI vs Chhota Rajan — Jaya Shetty murder case

The CBI's prosecution of gangster Chhota Rajan for the 2001 murder of Mumbai hotelier Jaya Shetty. A special court in Mumbai sentenced him to life imprisonment on 30 May 2024; in September 2025 the Supreme Court cancelled the bail the Bombay High Court had granted him while his appeal is pending.

State vs Arun Gawli — Shiv Sena corporator Jamsandekar murder case

Arun Gawli was convicted by a special MCOCA court on 24 August 2012 for the 2007 murder of Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar, and the Bombay High Court upheld this conviction on 10 December 2019. The Supreme Court of India granted bail to Arun Gawli on 28 August 2025, overturning a previous denial of his plea as reported on 20 February 2025.

State vs Unidentified Accused — Serum Institute of India cheating case

Seven individuals were arrested for allegedly cheating the Serum Institute of India of Rs 1 crore by impersonating its CEO via WhatsApp, as reported on 25 November 2022. The case is pending before the Bombay High Court, which addressed the anticipatory bail application of accused Rohit Rajendra Parmar as reported on 8 August 2025.

The Central Bureau of Investigation registered a case against Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan and 28 others for alleged extortion, kidnapping, theft, and criminal conspiracy.
