In re: Online Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) regulation
In its 17 October 2026 judgment, the Supreme Court directed the Union Government to establish a national database for child sexual exploitation material and prohibited online platforms from monetizing or hosting such content through subscription services. While declaring internet access a fundamental right, the Court noted that the existing Sahyog Portal requires functional expansion to effectively detect and remove abuse material. As reported on 27 October 2026, the Court has granted the Union Government four weeks to present a comprehensive policy framework addressing CSAM and non-consensual intimate content.
