Allahabad High Court — CBI probe into police encounter in Uttar Pradesh

The Allahabad High Court ordered a CBI investigation into a May 2025 police encounter in Shravasti on 28 August 2026 after ruling the police FIR account appeared prima facie false. Previously, on 21 August 2026, the court directed the trial court to provide the rape accused applicant with legal aid before passing a fresh order on his discharge application. The court also criticized the Uttar Pradesh Police for recurring patterns of alleged staged encounters and procedural guideline violations.

State vs. Accused (unnamed) — Sexual assault and rape case, Ghaziabad

Following an initial complaint on 7 July 2026, an FIR was registered in Ghaziabad on 28 July 2026 regarding allegations of rape and sexual assault against an employer. The Allahabad High Court ordered the Uttar Pradesh DGP on 19 August 2026 to conduct a supervisory inquiry into local police officials for their initial refusal to register the case. The court subsequently ruled on 26 August 2026 that police cannot refuse to register FIRs in sexual assault cases based solely on a lack of digital evidence.

State vs Accused person — rape case, Karnataka

In Karnataka, an accused faces a rape trial following a complaint filed on 1 May 2024. The Karnataka High Court has repeatedly refused to quash the proceedings, most recently ruling on 21 August 2026 that claims of consensual sexual acts must be tested through a full-fledged trial. Prior to this, the High Court denied the accused's bail plea as reported on 2 June 2026.

State vs two police constables — Tiruvannamalai rape case

In September 2025, two police constables were accused of raping a woman during a night patrol near Tiruvannamalai, leading to their dismissal from service on 02 October 2025. Following a petition filed by the survivor, the Madras High Court ordered all trial courts in Tamil Nadu to expedite sexual offence cases and avoid unnecessary adjournments, as reported on 15 August 2026.

State vs Ashish Kapoor

Former AIG Ashish Kapoor faces investigation and trial regarding allegations including bribery, rape, and extortion. Following the grant of regular bail as reported on 31 May 2023, the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed his plea regarding pardon proceedings on 29 February 2024 and denied his request to transfer the trial to another judge on 3 March 2024.
