Dr. Rajneesh Singh vs Union of India — Taj Mahal history petition

Dr. Rajneesh Singh filed a public interest litigation seeking a survey of the Taj Mahal to investigate claims that the monument is a temple known as Tejo Mahalaya. While the Supreme Court dismissed the plea to rewrite history on 5 December 2022, the Allahabad High Court is currently considering a similar survey petition. The High Court has requested responses from the Centre and the Archaeological Survey of India, with a hearing scheduled for 25 November 2026.

Public Interest Litigation regarding naming and shaming hoardings

The Allahabad High Court ordered the removal of hoardings displaying personal details of individuals allegedly involved in protests, observing that the police and executive lacked the legal power for such public exhibitions. As reported on 13 March 2020, the Supreme Court heard the Uttar Pradesh government's appeal against this order and observed that no law currently supports the state's action of displaying such personal details.
