National Investigation Agency vs Dawood Ibrahim and others — Terror Funding Case

The National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet against Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Shakeel, and others for alleged terror funding and unlawful activities. The Supreme Court issued a notice to the agency on 24 September 2026 regarding the bail plea of accused Shabbir Abubakar Shaikh, who had been in custody for over four years. Additionally, a Special NIA court declared accused Mushtaq Ahmed Mir a proclaimed offender on 15 October 2026.

State vs Ritulal Yadav — Organized crime and extortion case

CBI investigation into pan-India digital arrest scam network

The CBI is investigating organized cybercriminal networks involved in pan-India digital arrest scams under Operation Chakra-VI. Following Supreme Court directives to treat these as organised crime, the agency has conducted multiple nationwide raids, including searches at 89 locations across 20 states on 06 September 2026, leading to several arrests. The investigation, which began following a 2025 mandate from the Supreme Court, has resulted in the filing of a charge sheet in a major case involving a 23 crore scam.

CBI vs Chhota Rajan — Jaya Shetty murder case

The CBI's prosecution of gangster Chhota Rajan for the 2001 murder of Mumbai hotelier Jaya Shetty. A special court in Mumbai sentenced him to life imprisonment on 30 May 2024; in September 2025 the Supreme Court cancelled the bail the Bombay High Court had granted him while his appeal is pending.

State vs Arun Gawli — Shiv Sena corporator Jamsandekar murder case

Arun Gawli was convicted by a special MCOCA court on 24 August 2012 for the 2007 murder of Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar, and the Bombay High Court upheld this conviction on 10 December 2019. The Supreme Court of India granted bail to Arun Gawli on 28 August 2025, overturning a previous denial of his plea as reported on 20 February 2025.

State vs Mohan Nayak N — Gauri Lankesh murder case

Mohan Nayak N, an accused in the 2017 murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, faces charges under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act after the Supreme Court restored them in October 2021. As reported on 8 December 2023, the Karnataka High Court granted him regular bail, and the Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging this release on 21 August 2024.

Supreme Court ruling on MCOCA/GUJCOCA applicability

The Supreme Court held that a person cannot be tried under MCOCA or GUJCOCA if they have ceased to engage in unlawful activities after the respective acts came into force.
