State of Karnataka vs Shubha Shankarnarayan and others — BV Girish murder case

Central Bureau of Investigation vs Sajjan Kumar — 1984 Anti-Sikh riots case

Former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. His appeal against this conviction was pending before the Supreme Court as of 23 April 2026. Sajjan Kumar died at the age of 80 at Safdarjung Hospital on 13 September 2026 while serving his sentence.

State vs Six persons — Bihar 2001 indiscriminate firing case

Six persons accused of indiscriminate firing to kill a man in broad daylight in 2001 were acquitted by the Supreme Court after more than a decade of appellate proceedings. One accused had served a life sentence awarded by the trial court and upheld by the Patna High Court in 2015. State of Andhra Pradesh vs Ponthati Siva Rami Reddy — Assault conviction case (IPC 302)

The Supreme Court refused to restore a conviction under IPC Section 302 (murder) in a case involving serious assault. The victim provided a detailed blow-by-blow account describing 22 injuries, including grievous ones, which raised serious doubts regarding the conviction in the Court's assessment.

State of Tamil Nadu vs Accused — Dr. SD Subbiah murder case

The sessions court initially sentenced seven individuals to death and two to life imprisonment for the murder of neurologist Dr. SD Subbiah. Following an acquittal of all accused by the Madras High Court in June 2024, the Supreme Court set aside the acquittals on 19 May 2026. State vs Arun Gawli — Shiv Sena corporator Jamsandekar murder case

Arun Gawli was convicted by a special MCOCA court on 24 August 2012 for the 2007 murder of Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar, and the Bombay High Court upheld this conviction on 10 December 2019. The Supreme Court of India granted bail to Arun Gawli on 28 August 2025, overturning a previous denial of his plea as reported on 20 February 2025.
