Investigation into the murder of BSP leader K. Armstrong

BSP leader K. Armstrong was murdered by a gang in Perambur on 5 July 2024. Following a 24 September 2025 Madras High Court order and the state government's withdrawal of its Supreme Court appeal on 15 July 2026, the investigation into the murder was transferred to the CBI. As reported on 27 October 2026, the CBI has submitted a status report regarding the ongoing probe to the Supreme Court of India.

State vs. Surjith and others — Kavin Selvaganesh murder case

Engineering graduate Kavin Selvaganesh was murdered in Tirunelveli in July 2025 due to an alleged inter-caste relationship. While the Madras High Court quashed the chargesheet against the prime accused's parents on 29 September 2026, the Tamil Nadu government filed an appeal against this decision in the Supreme Court on 16 October 2026. Separately, the fourth accused, Jayapal, was granted conditional bail on 15 October 2026.

State vs Accused in Tuticorin POCSO case

A special POCSO court in Thoothukudi sentenced Dharma Muneeswaran to a double death penalty on 25 May 2026 for the rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl. As reported on 5 June 2026, the case has been referred to the Madras High Court for confirmation of the sentence.

State of Tamil Nadu vs Accused — Dr. SD Subbiah murder case

The sessions court initially sentenced seven individuals to death and two to life imprisonment for the murder of neurologist Dr. SD Subbiah. Following an acquittal of all accused by the Madras High Court in June 2024, the Supreme Court set aside the acquittals on 19 May 2026. The Supreme Court restored the convictions of the seven individuals while modifying their sentencing to life imprisonment, with two others permitted to seek pardon.

State vs S Yuvaraj and others — Gokulraj murder case

A special court convicted ten individuals, including prime accused S. Yuvaraj, for the murder of a Dalit youth named Gokulraj. On 2 June 2023, the Madras High Court upheld the life imprisonment sentences for eight of the convicts. As reported on 17 March 2026, S. Yuvaraj has filed a petition requesting the reopening of the investigation into the death of DSP Vishnupriya.
