State vs Manoj Kumar — Enforcement Directorate extortion case

Suspended Enforcement Directorate officer Manoj Kumar surrendered to police custody in May 2017 following allegations of extortion. As reported on 15 January 2026, the Supreme Court of India intervened in a conflict involving multiple FIRs registered by the West Bengal Police against several Enforcement Directorate officers, including Manoj Kumar Verma.

CBI vs Ateeq Ahmad and others — Extortion and kidnapping of Lucknow businessman

Acting on Supreme Court directions as reported on 13 June 2019, the Central Bureau of Investigation registered a case against former MP Ateeq Ahmad, his son, and 16 others. The accused are alleged to have kidnapped, assaulted, and extorted a Lucknow-based businessman. As of 14 June 2019, the matter is under investigation.
