State vs Walmik Karad and others — Santosh Deshmukh murder and extortion case

The CID has filed a chargesheet against eight individuals, including Walmik Karad, for the murder of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh allegedly involving an organized extortion syndicate. As of 11 September 2026, the case is pending before the court, and the victim's brother has requested Karad's transfer from Beed jail following allegations of unauthorized communication and preferential treatment. Previous bail applications by the accused were rejected by the court as of 14 July 2026.

State vs Ejaz Lakdawala

Gangster Ejaz Lakdawala faced various extortion and attempted murder allegations. The Thane Sessions Court acquitted him in a 2011 extortion and attempted murder case on 4 August 2025 due to insufficient evidence and unreliable witness testimonies. His daughter, Shifa Lakdawala Sheikh, was cleared of involvement in related proceedings as reported on 19 February 2020.

CBI vs Chhota Rajan and others — B R Shetty attempt to murder case

In a 2012 attempt-to-murder and extortion case, gangster Chhota Rajan and five others were accused of firing at Mumbai hotelier B R Shetty. On 20 August 2019, a special MCOCA court in Mumbai convicted all six individuals and sentenced them to eight years of imprisonment.
