The investigation, which is currently ongoing, has been expanded to include charges of attempt to murder, abduction, and violations under the Arms Act as of 26 October 2026.

The Crime Branch Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigated the custodial death of 29-year-old Sreejith S R in Varapuzha, Kerala, in April 2018. Four police officers have been charged with murder in connection with the incident.
