State vs Police Officers — Custodial death of A. Mariyamma

A case was registered against Sub-Inspector V. Maheshwar and two constables, Raheed and Janaiah, following allegations that they tortured and caused the custodial death of A. Mariyamma at the Addagudur police station. Three involved officers were dismissed from service as reported on 21 July 2021. On 19 March 2024, the Telangana High Court affirmed the State's duty to protect those in custody and directed the payment of compensation regarding the death.
