Investigation into the death of Akash in police custody

Akash Delison, a 26-year-old Dalit man, died after alleged custodial torture by police in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu. As of 10 September 2026, the CB-CID has formally named six police officers as accused in the case, charging them with offenses including murder and assault. Previously, the Madras High Court directed authorities to perform the victim's last rites on 16 June 2026 after the family refused to claim the body for over three months.

State vs two police constables — Tiruvannamalai rape case

In September 2025, two police constables were accused of raping a woman during a night patrol near Tiruvannamalai, leading to their dismissal from service on 02 October 2025. Following a petition filed by the survivor, the Madras High Court ordered all trial courts in Tamil Nadu to expedite sexual offence cases and avoid unnecessary adjournments, as reported on 15 August 2026.

State vs Police Personnel — Custodial death of a man in Namakkal

Three police officers, including two sub-inspectors and a constable, were suspended on 17 January 2022 following the death of Prabhakaran, who allegedly died in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, due to custodial torture and illegal detention. As reported on 9 June 2022, the case remains under legal scrutiny by the Madras High Court.
