In re: Divorce appeal regarding cruelty under Section 498A IPC

The Madras High Court dismissed an appeal against a trial court's acquittal of a husband accused of cruelty under Section 498A and abetment to suicide under Section 306 of the IPC following the deaths of his wife and child. On 23 October 2026, the court held that an extramarital affair by itself does not constitute cruelty under Section 498A without evidence of willful conduct or harassment.

State vs AG Perarivalan — Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case

Following his release from prison on 18 May 2022 by the Supreme Court, AG Perarivalan enrolled as a lawyer with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on 28 April 2026. His enrolment is currently being challenged by a Congress MP, and as reported on 1 October 2026, the Madras High Court has ordered authorities to consider his petition for the issuance of a passport.
