Tariq Ahmad Dar vs Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court heard a Letters Patent Appeal against a single-judge order upholding a preventive detention order issued under the Public Safety Act against an individual accused in multiple cattle theft cases. The Division Bench quashed the detention order, ruling that ordinary criminal law was sufficient to deal with the accused and that mere allegations of repeated criminal activity do not automatically constitute a threat to public order.
