In March 2023, a trial court in Uttar Pradesh acquitted 41 men accused of involvement in the 1987 Malyana communal violence due to insufficient evidence. As reported on 10 May 2023, a victim has challenged this acquittal in the Allahabad High Court, which has since summoned the trial court records.
