State vs kiln owners — Mysuru brick kiln bonded labour case

Twelve to thirteen bonded labourers, including minors, were rescued from a factory in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh after alleged 10-month abuse involving torture, branding, whipping, and severe malnutrition. Factory owner Ankit Balyan, his father Pradeep Balyan, and supervisor Shiva Tyagi have been booked under human trafficking, bonded labour, murder, child labour, and SC/ST atrocities provisions; two are arrested and one is absconding.

Two lawyers were assaulted, suffering head injuries. The Supreme Court directed Delhi police to add charges of attempt to murder and grievous hurt under BNS, and to transfer the investigation to the Crime Branch for an impartial probe.

A 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh in September 2020. The CBI filed a chargesheet in December 2020 against four accused persons. In March 2023, an SC/ST court acquitted three of the four accused; one was convicted of culpable homicide, and gang-rape charges were dropped against all accused.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed chargesheets against 36 accused persons, including 16 Bangladeshi nationals and one Rohingya of Myanmar origin, in a human trafficking case in Bengaluru. The case is described as 'massive' in scope.

An advocate was assaulted, allegedly by lawyers. The Supreme Court directed the Delhi Police to add attempt to murder charges and transfer the investigation to the Crime Branch, noting the severity of head injuries inflicted on the victim.

A Supreme Court advocate alleged he was assaulted at his Delhi home, sustaining grievous injuries including 8 stitches on his head. An FIR was registered at Model Town Police Station on July 11 under BNS Sections 332(c), 115(2), and 3(5). The advocate moved the Supreme Court seeking police protection and alleging the investigating officer failed to invoke provisions relating to attempt to murder and grievous hurt.
