Mohammad Umar, a 32-year-old man from West Bengal, was arrested by the Chandigarh Cyber Crime Police Station for allegedly defrauding a city resident of Rs 23.2 lakh through an online investment scheme.

The CBI has registered an FIR against Reliance Capital in connection with an alleged Rs 1,816.22-crore fraud involving EPFO investments. The case is part of the broader Reliance ADA Group investigation being monitored by the Supreme Court, with four chargesheets already filed and seven accused persons arrested.

The Supreme Court registered a suo motu case in October 2025 after a senior citizen couple from Haryana reported being defrauded of Rs 1.5 crore in a digital arrest scam. The Court issued 13-point directions to combat such scams nationwide, recognizing this as a widespread issue affecting multiple states and directing RBI, banks, and state authorities to implement urgent SOPs and cybercrime coordination mechanisms.

The CBI chargesheeted seven persons, including former IDFC FIRST Bank Sector-32 branch manager Ribhav Rishi, in an alleged fraud involving Rs 340 crore siphoned from Chandigarh civic funds. The chargesheet identifies the former bank manager as the alleged principal mastermind. The case involves 87 fraudulent transactions.

A 25-year-old man named Rafikul Alam from Assam was arrested by Gujarat CID's Cyber Centre for his alleged involvement in a digital arrest cyber fraud network. He is linked to 1,090 digital arrest cyber fraud cases worth Rs 1,071 crore across India. Three FIRs were registered against him under the Information Technology Act.

Surat cybercrime police arrested two accused, Rupalal Mandal (29) and Mukesh Mandal (31), from Jharkhand during a four-day operation spanning 1,800 kilometres. The accused allegedly received, withdrew, and transferred money linked to cybercrime networks.
