State vs Advocate Assault Case — Supreme Court Directions for Attempt to Murder Charges

Two lawyers were assaulted, suffering head injuries. The Supreme Court directed Delhi police to add charges of attempt to murder and grievous hurt under BNS, and to transfer the investigation to the Crime Branch for an impartial probe.

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das filed a civil suit in the Delhi High Court against digital media portals, social media intermediaries, and political commentator Abhijit Iyer-Mitra for disclosing his residential address and seeking damages for invasion of privacy.

Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh is accused of sexual harassment. Delhi Police registered an FIR and filed a chargesheet against him under IPC sections 354, 354A, 354D, and 506. The Delhi court has reserved its verdict, with judgment scheduled for August 3, 2026.

Twelve to thirteen bonded labourers, including minors, were rescued from a factory in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh after alleged 10-month abuse involving torture, branding, whipping, and severe malnutrition. Factory owner Ankit Balyan, his father Pradeep Balyan, and supervisor Shiva Tyagi have been booked under human trafficking, bonded labour, murder, child labour, and SC/ST atrocities provisions; two are arrested and one is absconding.

An FIR was registered against an Army commanding officer and approximately 40 soldiers for allegedly assaulting police personnel and other government officials at Kishtwar police station in Jammu & Kashmir. The accused are alleged to have caused injuries to multiple police personnel and the ARTO, vandalized official vehicles, damaged the police station gate, and caused damage to government property.
