Goa Nightclub Fire Case — Deaths of 25 persons, bail cancellation

The Luthra brothers and their business partner were arrested in connection with a nightclub fire in Goa that killed 25 people. Chargesheets allege culpable homicide not amounting to murder, negligent conduct regarding fire, forgery in obtaining permissions, and criminal conspiracy. Their bail was initially granted in April 2026 but was cancelled by the Bombay High Court.

A 65-year-old accused was convicted and awarded death penalty for rape and murder of a minor. The case gained attention for the speed of investigation and trial. Police collected evidence from multiple sources and coordinated with forensic experts. A comprehensive chargesheet of 1,200 pages was filed on May 16.

Two lawyers were assaulted, suffering head injuries. The Supreme Court directed Delhi police to add charges of attempt to murder and grievous hurt under BNS, and to transfer the investigation to the Crime Branch for an impartial probe.

A Supreme Court advocate alleged he was assaulted at his Delhi home, sustaining grievous injuries including 8 stitches on his head. An FIR was registered at Model Town Police Station on July 11 under BNS Sections 332(c), 115(2), and 3(5). The advocate moved the Supreme Court seeking police protection and alleging the investigating officer failed to invoke provisions relating to attempt to murder and grievous hurt.

An FIR was registered against an Army commanding officer and approximately 40 soldiers for allegedly assaulting police personnel and other government officials at Kishtwar police station in Jammu & Kashmir. The accused are alleged to have caused injuries to multiple police personnel and the ARTO, vandalized official vehicles, damaged the police station gate, and caused damage to government property.
