Landowners vs SJVN Limited — Luhri Hydro Electric Project compensation matter

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has directed SJVN Limited to pay statutory benefits, including solatium and interest, to landowners whose properties were acquired for the Luhri Hydro Electric Project (Stage-I). The court held that the company must comply with the conditions imposed by the state government regarding negotiated land compensation rates under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

Meira Kumar vs State of Bihar

The Patna High Court ruled that former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is entitled to compensation for land acquired by the state government in 1976. The court quashed a District Collector's order that had attempted to seize the land by cancelling the family's land records.

State of West Bengal vs. West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation and others — Singur Land Acquisition Case

In 2016, the Supreme Court of India set aside the land acquisition for the Tata Nano project in Singur and ordered the land returned to farmers. Following a Calcutta High Court rejection of a stay request on 07 May 2026, an arbitration award was granted to Tata Motors. As reported on 05 August 2026, the West Bengal government has since initiated talks with the Tata Group to reach an out-of-court settlement regarding this award.
