Godpower Media vs John Doe entities — 'Ramayana' film piracy protection

The Bombay High Court has granted a dynamic ad-interim injunction to restrain unidentified entities ('John Doe') and digital platforms from unauthorized distribution or piracy of the upcoming film 'Ramayana'. The court order directs internet service providers to block or remove infringing links upon notification from the petitioner, Godpower Media.

ANI Media v Open AI OPCO — Copyright and fair dealing case

In the case of ANI Media v Open AI OPCO, the Delhi High Court ruled on 24 July 2026 that OpenAI's use of copyrighted news content to train large language models is prima facie fair dealing under Section 52(1)(a) of the Copyright Act. Following this, the court dismissed the plaintiff's plea for an interim injunction on 17 August 2026 and refused to grant an immediate stay on the ruling on 15 September 2026.

The Chancellor, Masters and Scholars of the University of Oxford & Others vs Rameshwari Photocopy Services & Others

Major international academic publishers sued a photocopy shop at Delhi University, alleging copyright infringement regarding the creation of student course packs. In a ruling finalized by a Division Bench on 7 December 2016, the Delhi High Court held that reproducing copyrighted material for educational purposes does not constitute infringement. This decision, which upheld an earlier order from a Single Judge, concluded the litigation.
