State vs. Multiple accused — Digital arrest scam targeting Delhi executive and others

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez is accused by the Enforcement Directorate of receiving luxury gifts worth approximately ₹7 crore from alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who is accused of posing as a government official to defraud a businesswoman of ₹200 crore. Fernandez withdrew her Supreme Court plea against trial proceedings on June 25, 2026. Charges have been framed against her under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Punit Garg, former director of RCOM, has been accused in an alleged Rs 40,000 crore money laundering case. He was arrested by the ED on January 29, 2026, and chargesheeted. His bail plea was rejected by the trial court and is now pending before the Delhi High Court.

The CBI registered an FIR and filed a chargesheet following a complaint from the Supreme Court Registry. The case involves a cyber fraud network operating across 16 states, including Rajasthan. Fraudsters used fake domains to convince victims they were under investigation and extorted money under the guise of 'digital arrest'. Thirty-three accused have been chargesheeted including proprietors of dummy firms, technical handlers, and mules who routed funds.

Former Trinamool Congress councillor Debraj Chakraborty was arrested and faced 10 additional extortion cases and land-grab complaints within 24 hours of arrest. He and his wife, former TMC legislator and singer Aditi Munshi, have been booked in multiple cases including extortion, money laundering, criminal intimidation, and asset disproportionate to income. Both CBI and Enforcement Directorate are investigating various charges.
